CARLTON A, HONDRAS, II
18U and Women's Manager
Perfect Catch was founded in 2023 by Carlton A. Hondras, II, who was inspired by the talent of his daughter, Amira, and the many other girls around the country that he came to meet and witness through Amira’s baseball journey and participation in Baseball for All as well as MLB and USA sponsored baseball programming for girls. Amira has been blessed to participate in elite programming and competition opportunities for girls who excel in baseball. From there, Carlton was motivated to expand the exposure and opportunities for more girls in more communities. In 2024, IGB & Perfect Catch joined forces to collaborate in a united effort to grow, promote and affect change in girls baseball by training, developing, and empowering girls and women in the sport.

LAILA MENDES
16U Assistant
Coach Laila began playing baseball at six years old and quickly fell in love with the game. She continued playing baseball until high school, when she was pushed to softball to gain more playing opportunities. At Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center, she played varsity softball for four years as a starting catcher and served as team captain for three years. She also competed on three travel softball teams throughout high school.
After graduating in 2020, she stepped away from the game to focus on my education. She attended Wilbur Wright College before transferring to the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management.
In 2024, she returned to baseball by joining a men’s league and rediscovered her passion for the game. She traveled to DC in 2025 for the WPBL tryouts, which introduced her to Perfect Catch and 312 Baseball, where she found opportunities to grow as both a player and coach.
In 2026, Laila coached the 16U girls’ baseball team at the Baseball for All Nationals, where PC won the Minor Division Championship. That experience strengthened her passion for helping young athletes build their skills, confidence, and love for baseball.
Her coaching philosophy is centered on hard work, discipline, resilience, and respect for the game. Coach Laila encourages players to give themselves 10 seconds to be disappointed after a mistake or strikeout — then reset, refocus, and prepare for the next play. Every new play is another opportunity to learn, compete, and become a better player.
